Artist statement
I paint the West Texas horizon because it refuses to stay still. It is border, mirror, weather report, and promise—all in the same breath.
Born along the Rio Grande and based in Marfa since 2011, Ina Mirosa builds monumental landscapes through thin veils of oil, mineral pigment, cold wax, desert sand and, at times, mica or gold leaf. The paintings begin outdoors in small color studies and grow slowly in the studio, where remembered light becomes more important than observed geography.
Her current body of work, The Far Edge, follows the charged minutes before dusk—from Presidio to Highway 90, Cibolo Creek to the Santa Elena walls. Each canvas is less a record of place than an invitation to stand still inside it.
Field notes
Small studies made at the roadside become the first layer of every large canvas.
Material memory
Sand, wax and dry pigment give the landscape a physical, weathered surface.
Desert scale
The finished works are built to hold a room and reward long looking.
